The Environmental Protection Agency manages the National Ambient Air Quality Network.
The Air Quality Index for Health is calculated every hour and tells you if air quality is good, fair, poor or very poor in your region. The above index is for overall air quality in the Large Towns AQIH Region. The Kilkenny site is located in the EPA Regional Inspectorate at Seville Lodge on the Callan Road. Monitoring is done using continuous monitors for nitrogen oxides, ozone and benzene.

Air quality in Kilkenny was assessed during 2005 using a mobile unit containing monitors for ozone, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, PM10 and metals. The Kilkenny site was located in the yard of the firestation on Gaol Road. The results and the assessment report are available through the link below.
Also, between 1995 and 1998 ozone was measured at a site at Butts Green, Kilkenny which was on the edge of the city at that time. Results are available from the SAFER archive accesible through the link below.
