Corine Land Cover (CLC) is a digital map of the European environmental landscape intended for use by policy-makers as well as others. Based on the interpretation of satellite images, CLC provides comparable maps of land cover for each country for much of Europe. This is useful for environmental analysis and comparisons as well as for policy-making and assessment. Corine Land Cover 2006 is the third dataset in a series, the previous datasets corresponding to base years of 1990 and 2000.
The CLC 2006 project in Ireland forms part of this update of land cover maps for the whole of Europe, which is being coordinated by the EEA with the cooperation of national competent authorities in contributing states. This inventory provides a quantitative dataset of land-use changes during this period of unprecedented economic growth.
The datasets for all three parts of the series plus the GMES soil sealing layer are available free of charge.
