Odours from Drogheda waste water treatment plant

Irish Water is responsible for the operation and management of the waste water treatment plant serving Drogheda.  Irish Water must operate and maintain the waste water treatment plant to ensure that it avoids causing nuisance through odours.

The EPA has been made aware by members of the public and local representatives of odours emanating from the waste water treatment plant.

The EPA requested Irish Water to prepare and implement a corrective action plan setting out the actions it will take to resolve the odour issues and a timeframe for these actions.  This work is currently ongoing.

The EPA has instructed Irish Water to engage more closely with the local community and provide them with details of the corrective actions and timeframes that will resolve the odour issues.

Members of the public should report odours directly to Irish Water's call centre which operates 24/7 on 1850 278 278.  This will assist Irish Water to promptly investigate odours and identify the odour sources as they occur.

Irish Water's resolution of odour issues is a priority for the EPA and we will continue to monitor Irish Water's progress in resolving these issues.
