EPA prosecutes Galway County Council

On 23 April 2008 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Galway County Council at Loughrea District Court.  The Council pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to comply with a direction issued to it by the EPA on 31 August 2007 requiring it to install a continuous chlorine residual monitor and alarm at the Craughwell Water Treatment Plant within two months of the date of the said direction.

On hearing details of the offence, Judge Eamon O’Brien imposed a fine of €4,000 and EPA costs of €5,500 were also awarded.
