EPA prosecutes Mayo County Council

On 1 February 2012 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Mayo County Council at Castlebar District Court for failure to comply with a direction under the European Communities (Drinking Water) (No. 2) Regulations (S.I. 278/2007). 

The direction was issued on 21 April 2009 and required the Council to prepare an action programme to ensure compliance with the trihalomethanes parametric value in relation to Lough Mask Regional Public Water Supply by 31t May 2011.  The Council pleaded guilty to the charge.
On hearing details of the offence, Judge Mary Devins imposed a fine of €750 on the Council and Agency costs of €2,350 were agreed and awarded.
