EPA prosecutes Donegal Meat Processrs (aka Donegal Meat Processors Limited)

On 30 April 2012 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Donegal Meat Processors at Letterkenny District Court.

Judge Paul Kelly heard the case and convicted the Company of:

• Failing to ensure that all areas where animal by-products were stored were constructed so that surfaces were impervious and laid to fall to drains that discharged to the on-site wastewater treatment plant;
• Failing to ensure that the drainage system was desludged as necessary and properly maintained at all times;
• Failing to ensure that a high liquid level alarm was on the first inlet sump, which was a location from which spillage of environmentally significant materials might occur in such quantities as were likely to breach local or remote containment or separator.

Judge Kelly imposed a fine of €1,000 on each charge.  He also awarded the Agency’s costs of €8,840.
