EPA prosecutes New Ross Port Company

On 16 October 2012 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted New Ross Port Company at Wexford District Court for causing or permitting dumping in the maritime area of the river Barrow, contrary to the provisions of Sections 1 and 2 of the Dumping at Sea Act 1996 (as amended).  The Company pleaded guilty to the charge.
On hearing details of the offence, Judge Gerard Haughton imposed a fine of €2,500 on the Company and Agency costs of €4,000 were also awarded.  This was the Agency's first prosecution under the Dumping at Sea Act.
