EPA Prosecutes Galway County Council - Kilronan Waste Water Works

On 6th June 2013 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Galway County Council at Kilronan District Court.

The Council pleaded guilty to permitting discharges from the Waste Water Works at Kilronan, Inis Mór, Aran Islands without a certificate of authorisation from the Agency.

On hearing details of the offence Judge Fahy imposed a fine of €2,000 and costs of €3,500 were awarded to the Agency.

This was the Agency’s first prosecution for a breach of the Waste Water Discharge (Authorisation) Regulations.
