EPA prosecutes Limerick County Council

On 2 July 2013 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Limerick County Council at Newcastle West District Court.

The Council pleaded guilty to failing to ensure that the activities at Gortadroma Landfill were carried out in such a manner that emissions including odours did not result in significant impairment of and/or significant interference with amenities or the environment beyond the facility boundary as required by the conditions of its licence.

On hearing details of the offence the judge imposed a fine of €2,000 and costs of €5,960 were awarded to the Agency.
