EPA prosecutes Longford County Council

On 15 April 2014 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Longford County Council at Longford District Court.

The Council pleaded guilty to the following charges:

• Failure to control the discharge to waters from the waste water works.

• Failure to take measures as were necessary to ensure that no deterioration in the quality of the receiving waters (river Camlin) occurred as a result of the discharge.

On hearing details of the offences Judge Hughes imposed a fine of €100 and costs of €4,970 were awarded to the Agency.

The Council also made a commitment to fund Inland Fisheries Ireland to help re-stock the River Camlin.
