EPA Prosecutes Rilta Environmental Limited

On 11th April 2016 , the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Rilta Environmental Limited (W0192-03) in the Four Courts, Dublin 7. 

The company pleaded guilty to the following charges:

  • On the 8th of October 2014, the company did not inspect waste arriving at the facility in accordance with the licence requirements.
  • On the 8th of October 2014, the company’s waste storage tracking system and the chemical storage tracking system did not properly illustrate the location, identification code, volume and content of all waste containers or relevant chemical containers at the facility.
  • On the 8th of October 2014, the company stored waste that had not been clearly labelled and appropriately segregated and did store waste at areas other than designated areas in accordance with the licence requirements.
  • On the 8th of October 2014, the company did not label all containers to clearly indicate their contents and that stored containers were not accessible and not so placed as to allow for the reading of the label.

Judge O’Neill convicted the Company of the above offences.  He imposed a fine of €1,500 on each of the four charges and awarded Agency costs of €13,635.99.
