EPA prosecutes P Carney Limited

On 24th February 2017 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted P Carney Limited at Navan District Court, Co Meath

The company pleaded guilty to:

  • Failing to ensure that emissions from the installation did not exceed the emission limit values for Dioxins as set out in the licence within the period commencing 22nd October 2015 and ending on 23rd October 2015.
  • Failing to notify the Agency as soon as practicable after the occurrence of a release of environmental significance to atmosphere from any potential emission point including bypasses within the period commencing 10th December 2015 and ending on 22nd February 2016.
  • Failing to notify the Agency as soon as practicable after the occurrence of a release of environmental significance to atmosphere from any potential emission point including bypasses within the period commencing 21st January 2016 and ending on 22nd February 2016.

On hearing details of the offence Judge Malone convicted the company of two charges and took the last charge into account. She imposed fines totalling €4000. The Agency costs were also awarded.
