EPA prosecutes Silver Hill Foods(P0422-02)

On the 27 March 2017 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Silver Hill Foods at Monaghan District Court. 

The Company pleaded guilty to: 

1. Emissions to water at emission point reference number W1 (SW1) exceeding the emission limit values for Suspended Solids, BOD and Ammonia within the period commencing 2 March 2016 and ending on the 3 March 2016(both dates inclusive).

2. Failing to ensure that waste was stored in designated areas, protected as may be appropriate, against spillage and leachate run-off on 3 March 2016.

3. Failing to notify the Agency by telephone or any other means specified by the Agency as soon as practicable after the occurrence of an emission which did not comply with the requirements of the said licence within the period commencing 2 March 2016 and ending on the 4 March 2016(both dates inclusive). 

Judge McLoughlin convicted the company on Charge 1 and imposed a fine of €2,000.  Charges 2 and 3 were taken into consideration. Agency costs of €5,750 were also awarded.
