EPA prosecutes Irish Water Portarlington

On the 25th September 2017, the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Irish Water, Portarlington at the Four Courts. 

Irish Water pleaded guilty to:

• Between 28th October 2015 and 29th December 2016(both dates inclusive), specified discharges from the waste water works exceeded the emission limit values set out in Schedule A: Discharges and Discharge Monitoring of the Waste Water Discharge Licence D0158-01.

• On 24th August 2016, failing to take corrective action when specified requirements of the said Licence were not fulfilled.


Judge Brennan fined Irish Water €4,000 on charge one and €1,000 on charge two, Agency costs of €4,692.87 were also awarded.
