National Focal Point and EIONET

EIONET (European information and observation network) is a partnership network of the European Environment Agency (EEA) and its member and participating countries. It consists of almost 900 experts from 37 countries in over 300 national environment agencies and other bodies dealing with environmental information.

National Focal Points (NFPs) are environmental organisations - represented by persons - appointed by the EEA member countries at the national level as primary links/contacts between the EEA and the national EIONET partners.  The Environmental Protection Agency acts as NFP for Ireland and we coordinate environmental information exchange with the EEA and others. As NFP, we maintain and develop the national network, facilitate and coordinate contacts, requests and deliveries between national and EU level.
