EPA Prosecutes Offaly County Council - Sep 29 2005, 4:26 PM On the 28th September 2005 at Tullamore District Court, Co Offaly, Offaly County Council pleaded guilty to offences under Sections 39(1) and 39(9) of the Waste Management Acts 1996 and 2003 for breaches of its Waste Licence (Reg. No. 29-2).
Report on Unauthorised Waste Activity in Ireland - Sep 15 2005, 12:15 AM The EPA’s Office of Environmental Enforcement (OEE) today published its report on The Nature and Extent of Unauthorised Waste Activity in Ireland. Focusing on illegal waste activity since the introduction of the Waste Management Act 1996, the report concludes that large-scale illegal dumping of the type that occurred in Co. Wicklow during the period 1997 to 2002 is no longer taking place.
Environment to become central to policy development - Sep 07 2005, 11:00 AM Ireland has one of the highest per capita rates of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in the EU and is one of the furthest from meeting its Kyoto targets according to Dr Mary Kelly, Director General, EPA. Appealing for the environment to be a primary factor in policy making across all aspects of the economy Dr Kelly said that “Ireland’s ‘environmental meter’ is already running with emissions trading expected to cost as much as €116m per annum”. Dr Kelly was speaking at the first EPA sponsored Environment Ireland Conference in Jury’s Hotel, Ballsbridge.
