The EU has been at the forefront of global efforts to address climate change. Currently the EU is focussed on achieving an international agreement to keep Earth on track to prevent a global average temperature increase of 2 degree Celsius. Future steps to achieve this agreement include a summit of world leaders called in 2014 and a major meeting in Paris in 2015.

Mr Delbeke has been central to development of the 2020 targets on Climate Change and Energy in the EU Council and Parliament. He was also a key architect of the European Emissions Trading Scheme, legislation on air quality targets and emissions from large industrial installations and on EU legislation on cars and fuels.

This lecture will be chaired by Dr. John Bowman
