Fish Kill on the River Gradoge, Mitchelstown, Co. Cork

Following detailed investigations, it was concluded that the primary cause of this incident was poor underground process and surface water pipeline integrity. Dairygold Co-Operative Society Limited conducted extensive works on site in December 2012 and January 2013 to prevent future recurrence. 

 In line with the EPA enforcement policy, on 22 November 2013 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Dairygold Co-Operative Society Limited at Fermoy District Court.  Details of this prosecution may be found here.

  

On the 6th November, the EPA was informed of a fish kill that occurred on the River Gradoge. 

Dairygold Co-operative Society Limited, under the conditions of their IPPC Licence, Registration number P0404-02, have submitted the findings from their initial investigation into the incident.

The EPA and Inland Fisheries have also attended the scene to investigate the incident, and samples have been taken.
The EPA will continue its investigation into this incident and any further action will be taken in line with our enforcement policy.
