Emergency overflow from Dublin Road Pump Station

Irish water are currently reviewing and improving operational controls, alarm and emergency response procedures in place at the pump station.

Incident Notification: 19 May 2016

On 18 May 2016 the EPA received notification from Irish Water of the overflow discharge of screened untreated sewage from the Dublin Road Pump Station to the Bracken Stream in Balbriggan. The incident occurred between 02:00hrs and 11:00hrs on 17 May 2016, and was caused by a computer failure in the pump station controls. On 19 May 2016 Fingal County Council reported that there was a fish kill (~5 noted) in the Bracken Stream approx. 1 to 1.5km downstream of the discharge from the Dublin Road Pump Station.

The EPA will require a full investigation and assessment report in relation to this incident, which will address corrective and preventative actions to be taken. On foot of this information, further action will be considered by the EPA in line with our enforcement policy.
