EPA Warns Householders and Businesses about Illegal Dumping

Date released: Feb 23 2005

The EPA’s Office of Environmental Enforcement is working with Meath County Council to investigate incidents of illegal dumping of waste in County Meath.  The focus of the initial investigations will be to gather sufficient evidence to establish who was responsible for the illegal dumping that has taken place and to bring to justice those involved in this environmental crime.

“This incident highlights the importance for all waste producers of only using the services of authorised waste collectors for the collection of their waste.  Only local authorities and those with a valid waste collection permit are authorised to collect waste” said Dr. Matthew Crowe, Programme Manager, EPA.

Illegal dumping is a serious environmental crime that can have severe consequences for both human health and the surrounding environment.  The EPA’s Office of Environmental Enforcement, by working with local authorities, An Garda Siochana and other state bodies through the National Enforcement Network, is intent on stamping out this type of activity and ensuring that those responsible for it are held to account for their actions.
