Ireland’s recycling rates remain on track to meet national and EU waste recycling targets. To all intents and purposes, at 34.6 per cent, the national target of 35 per cent recycling was achieved well in advance of the 2013 target date. The amount of waste going to landfill remains persistently high however. This is according to the National Waste Report 2005 published today by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Ireland’s Greenhouse Gas emissions rose by 1.9 per cent in 2005, as compared to 2004. Figures released today by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) show that, while Ireland’s Kyoto target in the period 2008-2012 is to limit emissions to 13 per cent above the base line estimate, Ireland’s emissions in 2005 were 25.4 per cent above the base line estimate.

EPA calls for more designated bathing water areas - May 11 2007, 2:44 PM
Local authorities are being encouraged to designate more bathing sites, according to the latest Bathing Water Quality Report released today by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA report calls for the current number of 131 nationally designated bathing sites to be increased to 160 to help ensure the protection of public health related to swimming.
