EPA Climate Change Lecture Series - Climate Change Gain v Pain

Date released: Mar 06 2008

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) climate change lecture series continues this week with a lecture by Mr Michael Zammit Cutajar, co-chair of the United Nation’s working group - which is implementing the Bali Roadmap in search of a post-Kyoto international climate change agreement. (Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action.)

Will climate change become the challenge that truly unites mankind to deal with threats to our fragile planet or will climate change turn out to be a divisive force creating additional tensions or even conflicts?   Mr Zammit Cutajar will address these questions from his extensive experience of working to secure political cooperation at UN level over the past decade and a half.

Gaining agreement on a political solution to the problem of climate change is no easy task. As part of the concluding chapter to the EPA’s public lecture series on climate change, Mr Michael Zammit Cutajar will give a first-hand explanation of the challenge in meeting this global aspiration in the face of economic and political realities.  Mr Zammit Cutajar will address the reasons why it is necessary to have a coherent, globally agreed policy and programme to deal with the challenges of climate change. He will give some insights into how such agreements are achieved and why it is that they can succeed or fail.

The seven-part lecture series explores key aspects of climate change ranging from predictions and impacts, to its economic and political consequences. Speakers are top international experts.

Attendance at all lectures is free, but advance booking is essential due to the demand.  To book, please contact Clara Clark at: info@claraclark.ie.
