EPA issues Proposed Decision on Waste to Energy Incinerator at Carranstown, Duleek, Co Meath - Jan 13 2011, 12:00 AM
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced details of its Proposed Decision to issue a revised licence to Indaver Ireland (branch of Indaver NV) for the proposed waste incinerator at Carranstown, Duleek, Co Meath (Reg. No. W0167-02 ). The proposed licence decision is subject to a 28-day public consultation period.

Statement from the EPA regarding release of SKM Enviros report on the evaluation of environmental liabilities at Kerdiffstown Landfill - Feb 03 2011, 10:44 AM
The Environmental Protection Agency commissioned an independent expert consultant SKM Enviros to conduct an evaluation of the potential liabilities and related remedial costs associated with closure scenarios for the Kerdiffstown landfill site. The report was commissioned in conjunction with a number of legal actions taken by the Agency against the operators of the Kerdiffstown site. This report was completed in October 2010.

Ireland is well advanced in achieving most of the EU waste recovery and recycling targets, according to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Waste Report 2009, released today. However, the report urges continued efforts to divert biodegradable waste from landfill, improve the penetration of source separated waste collection services (3 bin), and prevent waste arisings from all sectors of society.

Data submitted by the EPA to the EU Commission show that emissions of Greenhouse Gases in 2010 for companies in Ireland covered by the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) are marginally higher than in the previous year. Greenhouse Gas emissions from Irish companies participating in the ETS had declined from 22.43 Mtonnes CO2 in 2005 to 17.22 Mtonnes CO2 in 2009. The data for 2010 shows emissions have risen slightly to 17.36 Mtonnes CO2.
