Participants in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme based in Ireland reported 1.7 per cent more greenhouse gas emissions in 2014 than in 2013. This is compared to a fall of approximately 4% across the EU in Emission Trading Scheme emissions. The increase is largely due to increased emissions from the cement sector (an increase of 31 per cent overall from the four Irish plants) and reflects increased production due to a rising demand for cement.

The EPA has today published an interim status report into its review of air emissions from ENVA Ireland Ltd, Clonminam Industrial Estate, Portlaoise, Co. Laois.The report has been produced in response to concerns raised about the quality, associated impact and risk posed by air emissions from ENVA Ireland Ltd. ENVA Ireland Ltd Portlaoise carries out a range of waste activities under the EPA licence W0184-01. The primary focus of this review related to air emissions from the reprocessing of waste oil to produce a fuel oil.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today releases provisional greenhouse gas emissions figures today for the time period 1990 – 2014. For 2014, total national greenhouse gas emissions are estimated to be 58.2 million tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent (Mt CO2 eq) which is 0.7 % lower than emissions in 2013.
