Dr Frank Mulligan re-appointed Chairman of RPII

The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government Dick Roche T.D has announced the re-appointment of Dr Frank Mulligan as Chairman of the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII) until February 2006.

Dr Mulligan became a member of the Board of the RPII in 1997 and was first appointed chairman of the Board in 2000.

Dr Mulligan is Vice-President of the National University of Ireland Maynooth, a post he has held since 1998. Previously he was Dean of Science where he lectured and conducted research in experimental physics.

Prior to his appointment at Maynooth, he had been a lecturer in physical sciences at Dublin City University. In his work on atmospheric and particle collision physics, Dr Mulligan has carried out research in Spitzbergen, at City College New York, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and at the Space Physics Research Laboratory of the University of Michigan.

He has been a member of the National Research Support Fund Board, and is currently a member of the Senate of the National University of Ireland.
