The LIFE Programme 2014-2020 is the EU’s funding instrument for the environment and climate action. The general objective of LIFE is to contribute to the implementation, updating and development of EU environmental and climate policy and legislation by co-financing projects with European added value. This presentation will give an overview of the Programme; its structure and budget; the types of projects that can be funded, including co-financing rates; as well as looking at the ‘project topics’ contained within the LIFE Multi-Annual Work Programme 2014-2017 and the indicative timetable for the calls for proposals in that period. Finally, while not a research programme, given the interrelationship between the environment, climate action and other policy areas, there is still a certain overlap in scope between LIFE and other EU financing programmes, in particular, Horizon 2020. This presentation aims to highlight some of the key elements of LIFE, and of some of its components, in order to help applicants identify the most suitable potential source of funding for their project proposals.
