EPA Prosecutes Eco-safe Systems Limited

On the 23rd May 2006 at Dublin Metropolitan District Court, Eco-safe Systems Ltd., pleaded guilty to an offence under Sections 39(1) and 39(9) of the Waste Management Acts 1996 - 2005 for a breach of its Waste Licence (Reg. No. 54-2).

The Company admitted breaching a condition of its licence by failing to bund all tank and drum storage areas as required by Condition 3.11.3 of its waste licence.

On hearing details of the offence from an EPA inspector, Judge Hugh O’Donnell imposed a fine of €2,000 and EPA’s costs of €5,126 were also awarded.

Eco-safe Systems Ltd was granted a waste licence in 1999. The EPA issued a revised licence (Reg. No. 54-2) on 1st August 2003 for the operation of a hazardous waste transfer station including the sterilisation of healthcare risk waste.

This prosecution was taken following site inspections undertaken by the Office of Environmental Enforcement on 6th April 2005 and 21st October 2005. The facility is located at Allied Industrial Estate, Kylemore Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10.
