EPA Prosecutes Irish Cement Limited

On the 15th June 2007 at Limerick District Court, the Environmental Protection Agency took a prosecution against Irish Cement Limited in relation to offences under Sections 8 and 86(6) of the Environmental Protection Agency Acts 1992 and 2003 for a breach of its IPC Licence (Reg. No. P0029-01).

The company pleaded guilty to a charge relating to the unauthorised emission of dust to the atmosphere on the 19th October 2006.  

On hearing details of the offence from an EPA Inspector Judge O’Donnell imposed a fine of  €1,250 and EPA costs of €11,555 were also awarded.

Irish Cement Limited was granted an IPC licence (Reg.No. P0029-01) on 15th May 1996.

Irish Cement Limited is located southwest of Limerick City near the village of Mungret, adjacent to the River Shannon.  The residential areas of Dooradoyle and Raheen lie to the east and southeast of the facility respectively.

This prosecution was taken following an investigation undertaken by the Office of Environmental Enforcement on 20th October 2006.
