The Kilkitt site is located in the drinking water treatment works at Kilkitt in Co. Monaghan. This is a rural setting with little traffic or other influences on air quality.
Monitoring is done using continuous monitors for nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide and ozone. PM10 and Benzo (a) Pyrene is also measured at this site. The measurement method used for PM10 is not automatic therefore the results are not available immediately.

In 2002/2003 an air quality assessment for all required parameters was carried out.
Carbon monoxide, benzene, particulates (PM10) and lead were measured at the site in addition to the three parameters mentioned above.
Results were collected from 11/09/2002 to 04/03/2003 and compared with the assessment thresholds in the air quality regulations to determine the long term monitoring necessary.
