The above index is for overall Air Quality in Zone D and not just at this station. The index is calculated based on the latest available measurements of ozone, nitrogen dioxide, PM10 and sulphur dioxide in Zone D.
The Shannon site is located on raised ground on a farm near Askeaton in Co.Limerick. Monitoring is done by a continuous monitor for sulphur dioxide.
This site is downwind of the major sulphur dioxide sources in the Shannon estuary.
