HAZRED was a three-year EU-Life funded partnership project, which aimed to reduce hazardous waste generation within small businesses in selected industrial sectors. The project was funded by the EU Life Environment Programme and ran from December 2004 until November 2007.
HAZRED project partners included the Environmental Protection Agency in Ireland, the Environment Agency in England, the Welsh Assembly Government the Scottish EPA, SafetyKleen, Envirowise and the Waste Recycling Group.

The aims of the HAZRED project were to:
The project intended to recruit about 20 Irish and UK companies from each of six selected industrial sectors as participants in the project. The six sectors were chosen based on the number of SME companies within each sector and the corresponding amount of hazardous waste that is generated by the sectors. The siz HAZRED sectors were:
Hazardous waste reduction plans were also developed for each sector. These include waste management best practice, methods of hazardous waste segregation and management, voluntary targets for reduction and other useful advice.
