Waste Reporting & Characterisation

The EPA is responsible for producing national statistics on waste generation and management in the Republic of Ireland, in addition to information on waste exports and imports. Waste data is collected through surveys of waste operators, local authorities, industry and other bodies as necessary. The data collected is used to contribute to the annual National Waste Report.

The EPA is currently developing a national programme of municipal waste characterisation surveys in consultation with local authorities.  Regular waste characterisation surveys at local level provide up to date information on the composition of household and non household waste.
