Ciara had recently been appointed to the Board of the EPA, as Director of the Office of Radiation Protection and Environmental Monitoring. Ciara had a long and distinguished career with a wide range of national, European and international experience and specialist knowledge in radiological and environmental protection Ciara had also represented the EPA on the Government Taskforce on Emergency Planning and worked at the US National Institute of Standards and Technology. For those that worked closely with her, Ciara brought an insightful approach to everything she did and contributed so much with her wide array of knowledge in the areas of emergency preparedness, environmental surveillance, radiation monitoring, citizen science, radon and air quality.

Ciara was a wonderful person – caring, always positive and good humoured.

She will be sorely missed by her colleagues.

Our thoughts are with Ciara’s family at this very difficult time.
