EPA prosecutes Western Brand Group Limited

On 7 February 2012 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Western Brand Group Limited at Ballyhaunis District Court.  The Company pleaded guilty to:

(i) Permitting specified emissions of water from the installation which exceeded the emissions limit values set out in Schedule B of its Licence;

(ii) Failing to notify the Agency as soon as practicable after the occurrence of an emission which did not comply with the requirements of its Licence and the malfunction or breakdown of key control and monitoring equipment likely to lead to loss of control of the abatement system;

(iii) Causing or permitting emissions other than specified emissions which were of environmental significance and which had not been treated in accordance with the provisions of the condition of its Licence.

On 6 March 2012 Judge Devins imposed a fine of €1,000 on the Company and awarded costs of €2,000.
