The Blue Flag tells us that a beach is clean and the water is good quality for bathing. While water quality is monitored at Blue flag beaches, pollution from sewage and litter can cause problems.
This clip shows how water quality is monitored and how some beaches in Dublin lost Blue Flag status because of pollution.
