This is the latest EPA report on quarterly greenhouse gas emissions for Ireland to support more frequent monitoring of national and sectoral progress on climate action. This series complements the national greenhouse gas inventory and projections prepared annually by the EPA. Emissions in Quarter 4 2025 were down by 1.3% on the same quarter last year. This was primarily driven by lower Electricity emissions (-240.5 kt CO₂ eq), partially offset by increases in Buildings (60.8 kt CO₂ eq), Other (39.0 kt CO₂ eq) and Industry emissions (20.8 kt CO₂ eq).

The successful candidate will fulfil the role of Scientific Officer III (Level 5) Hydrometrics & Groundwater. The successful candidate will be based in the Athlone office but may be required to carry out hydrometric monitoring anywhere in the country. The role is predominately an outdoor role, and the successful candidate will be part of the hydrometric field monitoring team, measuring river flows, lake and groundwater levels. They will work with colleagues within their wider Hydrometric & Groundwater team to ensure delivery of the hydrometric field work programme. The successful candidate will be required to assess, interpret and validate the hydrometric data gathered in their region and provide technical advice to their line manager and the regional team lead on the hydrometric stations in their area.

Scientific Officer III (Level 5) Freshwater Ecologist

The successful candidate will fulfil the role of Scientific Officer III (Level 5) Freshwater Ecologist. The successful candidate will work in the EPA’s Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Unit which undertakes monitoring and assessment of the ecological health of Ireland’s surface water resource. The role will involve extensive fieldwork, and travel away from the designated office location, monitoring surface waters within Ireland, as well as laboratory work, sample and data analysis and reporting.
