Project Abstract
University Galway will be leader of the objective WP3: Enable anaerobic digestion of dairy waste and residues for contaminants removal and resource recovery. Conductive materials-amended anaerobic digestion of nutrient-rich dairy manure and waste milk will be developed with the aim to biologically decontaminate the nutrient-rich anaerobic digestate from persistent pollutants (antibiotics and pesticides), originating from dairy manure, waste milk as well as other potential agricultural feedstocks, while recovering biogas to support the energy demand of the biorefinery platform.
