Project Abstract

Conventional cement manufacturing is one of the main producers of carbon dioxide globally. It generates 4.7% of Ireland total emissions and 20% of Irish EU ETS industrial emissions. This project will focus on reducing carbon footprint produced from cement by using a breakthrough cement technology which will decarbonise the binders. The new cement produced will use fillers and materials available in Ireland and it will reduce industry carbon emissions by up to 70%. It will be validated using extensive testing. Moreover, whole lifecycle cost and ecological footprint will be determined considering economic, environmental and social sustainability.
