Project Abstract
Recognising that Ireland has ownership of 15% of EU waters MaREI was initiated as one of the first seven SFI centres. MaREI is built upon the research prioritisation of Marine Renewable Energy (MRE), world-class researchers and infrastructure. MaREI�s focus has evolved in response to strategic national energy and marine research prioritisation and to industry interest and engagement, in research areas where these align with world-class research capacity. This world-class research led to the evolution from marine renewable energy to marine AND renewable energy, and to the growth of MaREI into three broad themes: Marine, Marine Renewable Energy, and Renewable Energy.
