Project Abstract

The EPA is progressing the development of the first Five Year Assessment Report. The objective is to deliver an assessment of our understanding of climate change based on scientific research and systematic observations in Ireland, linked EU and global analysis in a timely manner that can inform decision making on actions to address climate change. In addition, it will serve to: - Identify gaps to inform future research investment needs and priority research issues. - Utilise and enhance existing and emerging structures that are designed to address climate change. - Develop national assessment and analysis capacity. - Enhance engagement with similar developments at European and international levels. - Establish a structure and process to develop future reports. The report will be provided in four volumes. 1. Science: Ireland in a changing world. 2. Achieving climate neutrality by 20505. 3. Being prepared for Ireland’s future climate. 4. Realising the benefits of transition and transformation. These will be provided by a team of least 8 leading academics with two being responsible for leading each volume. The EPA is supporting this process by establishing a series of fellowship to support lead authors.
