Project Abstract
The project will compare biogas to CHP and biogas to transport fuel technologies on a technical, economic and environmental basis. Special emphasis will be on small to medium scale application for Ireland. For Ireland to meet the new EU commitments of a 20% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, it requires sustainable methods of producing energy including from waste. Various types of biomass will be investigated; biomass type 1 (BMW & agricultural wastes) will be compared to biomass type 2 (energy crops). Based on this analysis the potential for small to medium scale biogas technologies will be determined.
