Project Abstract

This project aims to develop a personal exposure GIS model for the Greater Dublin Area (GDA) and for its satellite towns (ST). Through experimental sampling of the real time personal exposure of various subjects and modelling ambient and indoor air quality, a model will be developed to make predictions of personal exposure based on a subject?s locations and activities throughout the day. Influencing factors such as weather conditions and traffic flow/composition/density will form part of the model predictions. The final model would be capable of predicting the personal exposure of individuals and of population sub-groups. It can be employed in operational analysis or in the assessment of the health impacts of air pollution. Some of the key outputs envisaged from this project would include:? An activity/location GIS model for use in other health or personal exposure research projects in Ireland? Peer reviewed publication(s) of the extensive sampling data to be recorded and the analysis thereof? Peer reviewed publication(s) of the development of the various aspects of the model (Indoor Modelling; Outdoor Modelling; Activity Based Modelling; GIS Modelling) ? Peer reviewed publication(s) of the application of the model to population sub-groups and typical individuals, highlighting methods of exposure reduction to the general population and governing authorities? A series of Interim Reports on the completion and progress in each work package and a Final Report to the EPA on the development of the model and health implications of its findings.
