Project Abstract

The aim of this research is to assess the current barriers to sustainable transport in Ireland across a raange of different criteria, including institutional and regulatory; land use and planning; behavioural and economic/fiscal. In particular, it will look at ways in which the transport network can be more efficiently in order to complement the provision of supply-side infrastructure. It will focus upon four areas, including a comparison between the transport networks in Irish and European settlements; an examination of the factors that influence travel behaviour; transport market regulation and demand management measures to incentivise more sustainable travel options.
