Project Abstract

This research will focus on developing a methodology for optimising water quality monitoring programmes and for developing assessment procedures for water quality compliance of lakes and estuaries with EU and national legislation. The approach adopted will be generic so that the methodology can be applied to different water quality parameters and different legislative instruments. The primary objective of this research project is to integrate water quality monitoring data together with model predictions to provide improved monitoring and estimates of water quality parameters in a cost-effective manner using the Bayesian maximum entropy (BME) method of geostatistics.
