Project Abstract

Assessment of the beneficial use of Old Landfill facilities as a parkland amenity in areas under urban influence. Study will focus on the case study of Kinsale Road Landfill Co. Cork. The study will demonstrate how the objectives can be applied to other landfill facilities in Ireland. The study will assess the benefits of converting a historical landfill to a parkland amenity from a social, economic and biodiversity perspective. It will also look at the potential to develop policy/ funding to provide an incentive for the re-use of old landfill facilities as parkland amenity. Output shall include a summary report which will focus on the findings of the Kinsale Road Landfill masterplan and demonstrate how this case study can be applied to other landfill facilities in ireland. It is intended upon completion of the report to conduct a workshop to present the findings to the EPA and decide on a framework for informing other relevant bodies including local authorities.
