Project Abstract

The challenges presented by climate change are unprecedented in terms of the potential scale of the impacts and level of transformation required. As such, the National Dialogue on Climate Action (NDCA) urgently needs to effectively engage a broad range of stakeholders and the public to inform the development and implementation of fair and just climate change adaptation and mitigation plans. To address this, C-CHANGE will provide a detailed synthesis of national and international frameworks for facilitating national dialogues on climate action. In a-first-of-its-kind investigation, C-CHANGE will also quantify through rigorous analyses of existing and newly collected data, the extent to which NDCA activities affect attitudes, perceptions, behaviour and motivation to act on climate change amongst stakeholder groups and the public. This information is critical for facilitating participation in dialogues to inform policy, plans and strategies. C-CHANGE assumes a transdisciplinary perspective by bringing together unique experts in climate science, policy, social science and human rights to initiate a new chapter in climate research and policy. In understanding the complex mechanisms of national dialogues on climate action, C-CHANGE will ensure that Ireland remains at the forefront of research in climate policy and will ensure a sustainable future for all.
