Project Abstract

This project proposes to develop the Climate Futures Framework for Ireland. The use of Representative Climate Futures (RCFs) presents a novel approach for balancing user needs for simplicity and interpretability with the need to include cutting edge climate model projections in decision making for adaptation. In producing robust climate services the Climate Futures Framework can act as a bridge between the climate research community and end users. A prototype web application will be developed to illustrate the functioning of the tool. Different levels of information will be provided to meet the varying information needs of end-users. This prototype will then migrate to the Irish Climate Information Platform. In addition we propose a novel extension to the framework for evaluating or stress-testing adaptation options in an advanced application. On completion, the proposed project will provide the datasets and statistics required for the development of a Climate Futures Application within the Irish Climate Information Platform.
