Project Abstract

The proposed study could help to reduce energy consumption in treatment of distillery wastes in Ireland. In Ireland's largest distillery, this could have a potential reduction in carbon emissions of 690 tonnes per annum along with a potential financial benefit of over 370,000. Results of the project will be published in technical journals/magazines to stimulate interest in utilising high BOD waste streams more effectively. It would also be submitted to the Worldwide Distilled Spirits Conference, (Scotland 2014), Sustainability Live and to conferences and technical trade talks organised by the Institute of Brewing, and via 2 Degrees sustainability network.
