Project Abstract

Transport represents the largest source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Ireland (producing 36% in 2007). Ireland must reduce this by 20% (relative to 1990 levels) by 2020. Electricity from wind can supply a GHG free energy source to Electric Vehicle?s (EV?s). This research aims to identify a deployment strategy for EV?s by 2020 to: 1. Reduce GHG emissions, 2. Deliver on the government target of 10% of all vehicles powered by electricity from renewable sources, 3. Assist in the integration of variable wind power to achieve the 40% renewable electricity target by providing additional load at optimal times.
