Project Abstract

Fieldwork on Inishbofin Island off Irelands west coast at County Galway, and Valentia Island off the southwest coast at County Kerry, reveals models of the human-environment relationship and how they intertwine with current climate conversations For Ireland to become a low-emission, sustainable economy built on a foundation of sustainability, research into how cultural processes influence collective and individual behavior is now imperative. Complementing existing climate change research, this approach utilising qualitative methods also stimulates new and timely analytical discourse, and contributes to developing the climate change communication strategies required to advance cultural engagement, development of policies, and adaptation and mitigation strategies.
